Advice

A college is as best as it's students and the resources that it provides for them, aside from the high quality of teachers another terrific way to improve the college is through the implementation of new media to help assist the students through live chats. New Media can be incorporated into the different departments of the school such as Bursar, Advisement and Financial Aid offices. They can have an instant chat option where the students can connect with these offices and receive immediate assistance.  I work, and I know a lot of students work too and have families to take care of and it is difficult sometimes to take time out of our busy schedule to come into these offices.  Email no longer is the fastest and efficient way to communicate. I sent an email five days ago to the Bursar's Office and I called but I have yet to receive any response. With the implementation of live chats, students can get answers to simple or puzzling questions. As technology modernize we should be taking advantage of its many ways of making our lives easier.

  1. I think the instant chat room would be a great idea that way students and departments can answer and ask questions faster and more efficiently.

  2. I also agree that the Instant Chat is a great way for a College and the students to communicate. It allows instant help for students that need it. For example, if a student were to have technical difficulties and were unable to log onto something, instant chat will help the student in getting their assignment done.

    1. I agree the instant chat would be helpful. A while back for about two weeks I couldn’t log on to the school WIFI from my phone, but it worked on my computer.

  3. This is a great idea, especially with the large amount of people in Baruch, it can definitely alleviate some of the long lines and be beneficial on both ends! I hope this idea gets implemented :)

  4. I love the Instant Chat idea. This can help speed up the process at each of the offices and work most efficiently. I often try calling or emailing the offices when I have a simple question and don't feel like waiting on line but they never answer. Hopefully this system would work better if implemented.

    1. Yes I agree sometimes our questions are not really difficult but rather simple. Instant Chat would be a great way to answer these questions at our convenience rather than holding or coming in school.

  5. I totally agree with you on having an instant chat option to these offices, (all Baruch offices if possible). I myself have emailed the Bursar and it took days for a response. Every time I seem to call a Baruch office, there is absolutely no-one to pick up the phone. In my own daily life, I love the use of live chat. For example, whenever I need to speak to a customer service representative for a company, I always check on their website if they have a live chat option because it's just more convenient than having to call them.

    1. I have the same problem again last week I emailed registrar office and am still waiting it has been over five days. It was a simple question regarding summer session and am still to get a response. Hopefully in the near future Instant Chat would be a normality at Baruch.

The United States Department of Transportation reported that in 2016 there were over three thousand fatalities due to distracted drivers in the entire country. Technology has become so addictive that we cannot put our phones away while driving. We do not acknowledge the problem until a tender age victim is involved or the accident resulted in the death of someone close. Instead of waiting for something so brutal and fatal to happen we should approach the problem head-on. An innovative technology to help prevent this would be an app or factory installed program on our phones that stop text messages to and from the phone. The program/app will be able to calculate speed and will disable texting until the vehicle has come to a stop. There are some kinks to workout but a technology such as this can help reduce texting and driving accidents.  https://www.nhtsa.gov/press-releases/usdot-releases-2016-fatal-traffic-crash-data

Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds

Virtual worlds have come a long way and today it can be used in several diverse ways that were not possible years ago.  According to the article, After Second Life, Can Virtual Worlds Get A Reboot , Jacki Morie, gave incredible insights into the different ways that virtual world can be used such as in Healthcare or training soldiers for combat.  She also made a remake about how people would never have to be alone again because with virtual worlds it is like a community, there will always be someone there.  Virtual worlds also not only allow for adults to be creative, but it also fosters creativity among the young generation, said Morie in her interview.  This is a very attractive feature of virtual worlds because it allows them to use their minds and create something pure and amazing. With technology such as Virtual Worlds, it will have its pros and cons that will either attract or reject its use.  On the pros of Virtual World as quoted from the article, The Advantages, and Disadvan
