Advice

A college is as best as it's students and the resources that it provides for them, aside from the high quality of teachers another terrific way to improve the college is through the implementation of new media to help assist the students through live chats. New Media can be incorporated into the different departments of the school such as Bursar, Advisement and Financial Aid offices. They can have an instant chat option where the students can connect with these offices and receive immediate assistance.  I work, and I know a lot of students work too and have families to take care of and it is difficult sometimes to take time out of our busy schedule to come into these offices.  Email no longer is the fastest and efficient way to communicate. I sent an email five days ago to the Bursar's Office and I called but I have yet to receive any response. With the implementation of live chats, students can get answers to simple or puzzling questions. As technology modernize we should be

Creativity and New Media

I am not an outdoorsy person or someone who would literally get their hands soiled. So this class I took the liberty to do something that I would never do in person which is pottery. Most of the times I am very impatient and a little hyper, so pottery is pretty much out of the picture. My inspiration for this project was things that I would furnish my apartment with. I went with simple colors nothing too bright or popping like grey and blue my favorite color. Two pieces would fit perfectly in my living room to go with my light or greyish sofa.

Creativity

The combination of technology and its collaboration with new media has made the far reach idea of creativity possible to anyone no matter their means.  The article,  Twitter Serves Up Ideas from Its Followers,  shows how with the combination of technology and new media where creativity is birthed and fostered.  Before this article, I thought that these ideas, the creativity behind them were fostered by the consumers but really it was the producers or these big creators who come up with these ideas, turns out that I was not entirely correct.  New media allows us to dig into that creative side of us as we explore ideas and connect with different people on the different platform.       Creativity is one of the 5 C's of new media, this is a fitting example and proof of how it is implemented.  With the resources available we can communicate and also collaborate with people all over the world who we were not able to connect with before these advancements in technology. For instance, a

Privacy

Let’s be frank, privacy is pretty much nonexistent in new media and social networking sites.  In this time and age, you can find anything online and with the right motivation and training you can get into any site private or not and access any information.  Some people, however, use new media in despicable and unsavory ways. The article, The Conundrum of Visibility: Youth Safety and the Internet , supports this claim, stating that people use new media for cyberbullying, sexual solicitation, and exposure of explicit content and identify theft; which seems to be a popular one.  Not you nor your personal content is safe from bullies who stroll your homepage looking for something to use to take you down emotionally. For a person who overshares on their new media accounts, they can become an easy target. We use new media so much that it is impossible for most people to go a day without it and because of this they may say, tweet, or update their status and accidentally share information no

Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds

Virtual worlds have come a long way and today it can be used in several diverse ways that were not possible years ago.  According to the article, After Second Life, Can Virtual Worlds Get A Reboot , Jacki Morie, gave incredible insights into the different ways that virtual world can be used such as in Healthcare or training soldiers for combat.  She also made a remake about how people would never have to be alone again because with virtual worlds it is like a community, there will always be someone there.  Virtual worlds also not only allow for adults to be creative, but it also fosters creativity among the young generation, said Morie in her interview.  This is a very attractive feature of virtual worlds because it allows them to use their minds and create something pure and amazing. With technology such as Virtual Worlds, it will have its pros and cons that will either attract or reject its use.  On the pros of Virtual World as quoted from the article, The Advantages, and Disadvan

Wiki So Far

So far on Wiki, I made a generous contribution to the New Media in Travelling. I have never done anything like this before, so it was really a learning experience for me. I have added four paragraphs and a picture under the category of Trip Planning, entitled Smart Destination. I decided to add this because I used it more than once on my vacations and I really found it helpful, so I wanted to share it with everyone.  I thought to myself this is what Wikis are about sharing useful information so everyone can utilize it for their personal needs so share it with someone.  I have edited it twice because of grammatical errors. I have also made a few mistakes which I had help from the professor and the help in editing section to recover. My only problem is that I am having a little difficulty with the references section, I cannot seem to get my reference in the correct position. If anyone is reading this have a solution or advise it will be really appreciated. I also recently added some con

Blog about Twitter

I have been a part of several Blackboard and in-class discussion, but this was my first Twitter discussion.  There is a significant difference between the two, one being that you are limited to what you have to say.  For some people this is no big problem but if you have mastered the art of saying what you have to say in 140 characters or less.  For me the twitter discussion proved a little difficult but not impossible, after reading all the documents there was so much of information and knowledge and to make a solid argument with 140 characters was challenging.  Contrary to the Blackboard discussion which I believe I am comfortable with, for one I have the abundance of space to write and I can also connect with all my classmates. Finally, with both blackboard and Twitter once you create an entry or tweet you cannot edit it as opposed to in classroom discussion, where if you make a mistake you can correct yourself right away or the professor or a fellow classmate can make the neces

Social networking sites

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and WhatsApp, allow its user to collect via real-time with each other no matter the time, place or occasion you have happening.  These sites allow us to make new friends, share too much of our lives that shouldn’t be shared, follow and support important causes, get live updates such as traffic or MTA.  Twitter, I found a little more changeling but only when I have, much to say and I am limited to a specific number of characters.  But other than that, it is very engaging, and it allows you to have a discussion/debate on anything that catches your attention.  WhatsApp is one of my favorites, I use it daily to communicate with anyone of my contacts.  One feature that I really like and that drew my attention to it that I could call people from my home country and communicate in real time.  Facebook is another great site for making ‘friends’ from all over the world.  It allowed me to reconnect with my old High School friends and relatives.  Another excellent fe

Blog Social networking

Technological advancements have been gracing our present and continuing to astonish us with its remarkable uses both negative and positive.  Social networking allows people to connect with each other, share information and collaborate through different platforms.  The article, In India, Using Facebook to Catch Scofflaw Drivers , provides an excellent example of how regular everyday commuters used social networking to help the authorities keep their streets safer for themselves, their children and other loved ones. Because of their posts and the attention that the site generated it lead to 665 tickets issued by the Delphi Traffic Police.  Social networking also has its “dark side”, for example, it invites bad interpersonal relationships.  This may seem like something that isn’t too deep or important but take a kid, for example, being cyberbullied or being “unfriend” can be damaging to their self-esteem. This may be something that lingers with them, which in turn may have damaging effec
