Creativity

The combination of technology and its collaboration with new media has made the far reach idea of creativity possible to anyone no matter their means.  The article, Twitter Serves Up Ideas from Its Followers, shows how with the combination of technology and new media where creativity is birthed and fostered.  Before this article, I thought that these ideas, the creativity behind them were fostered by the consumers but really it was the producers or these big creators who come up with these ideas, turns out that I was not entirely correct.  New media allows us to dig into that creative side of us as we explore ideas and connect with different people on the different platform.
Creativity is one of the 5 C's of new media, this is a fitting example and proof of how it is implemented.  With the resources available we can communicate and also collaborate with people all over the world who we were not able to connect with before these advancements in technology. For instance, a person from the United States may have an idea for a virtual world game and does not have the necessary skill set to create or draw nor the extra time to take out of work, they can connect with someone from another part of the world who has that skill set and work together on their project.

Social networking sites

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and WhatsApp, allow its user to collect via real-time with each other no matter the time, place or occasion you have happening.  These sites allow us to make new friends, share too much of our lives that shouldn’t be shared, follow and support important causes, get live updates such as traffic or MTA.  Twitter, I found a little more changeling but only when I have, much to say and I am limited to a specific number of characters.  But other than that, it is very engaging, and it allows you to have a discussion/debate on anything that catches your attention.  WhatsApp is one of my favorites, I use it daily to communicate with anyone of my contacts.  One feature that I really like and that drew my attention to it that I could call people from my home country and communicate in real time.  Facebook is another great site for making ‘friends’ from all over the world.  It allowed me to reconnect with my old High School friends an...

Social media, a negative repercussion of being social

Social media has become like a six sense for everyone, and I mean everyone, from my 3-year-old nephew right down to my 60-year-old uncle. The objective of my paper is to examine the negative repercussion of social media throughout different platforms upon being social. My stand is that it is not necessary that an individual is anti-social from the use of social media but how does it affect them when it comes to interpersonal communication when you must log off if any of us ever do. The areas to be examined will be but not limited to family, education, workplace and psychological. With the use of firsthand experiences and published articles, I will attempt to establish a concrete connection between social media and its negative effects of being social.

Blogs Vs. Wikis

Both blogs and wikis are new media technologies which are used to communicate.  However, there are a few contrasts between blogs and wikis.  Blogs are managed by an individual or a group of people and the content can be commented on by anyone.  It allows for user interaction, you can share your comments, suggestions or criticism.  Whereas Wikis are generated and maintain and can be edit by anyone who has access to it.  It shares background and other vital information about a specific subject.  Both blogs and wikis allow users to connect in ways that were not possible some years ago.  Because of their key features, it allows both to be well used and joins perfectly into today’s networked world.  The article,  An Internal Wiki That’s Not Classified,  shows how wikis have made such an impact in the world of new media that even that State Department has adopted it can create their own ‘Diplopedia’. Collaboration is a very important elem...
